SUMMARY:
The NDIA has extended the reassessments timeline from 28-day to a 90-day timeframe.
What’s Changing?
- More Time: Participants now have 90 days (instead of 28) to provide supporting information.
- Clearer Communication: Improved resources to explain the process more clearly.
- Better Support: The NDIA is working with participants and the disability sector to make reassessments easier to navigate.
Why This Matters
Eligibility reassessments help determine whether a participant’s support needs have changed. While this has always been part of the NDIS, for many, it’s a new and overwhelming process. Our goal is to make every interaction supportive, clear, and fair.
Next Steps
More improvements are on the way, with final changes expected by March 2025.

Improving the NDIS Eligibility Reassessment Process: What You Need to Know
At CSBS, we welcome the recent changes announced by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) regarding the eligibility reassessment process. We are pleased to see the NDIA listening to feedback from participants, their families, and representatives within the disability sector, and taking steps to improve the experience for NDIS participants.
What’s Changing?
✅ More Time for Participants – Effective immediately, participants will now have 90 days (instead of 28 days) to provide additional information to support their eligibility reassessment. This extension is a positive step, allowing participants more time to gather and submit the necessary information.
✅ Clearer Communication – The NDIA is working to improve how they communicate about reassessments by offering better resources and clearer explanations of what’s involved. This change will help participants better understand the process and what is required of them.
✅ Sector and Participant Collaboration – The NDIA is focusing on actively listening to participants and the disability sector to ensure that communications and processes are supportive and transparent. This commitment to collaboration will help ensure that the NDIS works for everyone.
Why Are These Changes Important?
Eligibility reassessments play an important role in ensuring that participants receive the appropriate support based on their current needs. For some, support needs may remain the same, while for others, they may change over time.
While eligibility reassessments have always been part of the NDIS, CSBS acknowledges that the process can be a source of uncertainty and stress for many participants. These changes by the NDIA are a step in the right direction towards making the process more manageable and less stressful.
What’s Next?
CSBS looks forward to seeing the ongoing improvements in the reassessment process, which are expected to be finalized by March 2025. We encourage the NDIA to continue refining the process and remain responsive to participant feedback to ensure fairness, accessibility, and a participant-focused approach.
