Remote Rural Respite Service

Disability Support and Respite for Families in Rural and Remote Queensland

Do you have a family member with a disability who needs extra support?

Do you need a break or just need an extra pair of hands to help you care for your loved one through your day?

If you’ve said yes, and you live in western Queensland, then we may have the support you’re looking for.

From 1 March 2022, we are trialing a one person mobile family support service that will take us wherever there is a need for family respite and or NDIS Participant one-on-one support.

If you have an NDIS plan with Core support funds or you wish to self-fund supports, we are happy to assist.

While our plan is to start small, our dream is to think big – this means increasing our reach to towns and properties where we know NDIS Participants, people with disability and their families cannot always access the supports and services they want and need.

Meet Sue, our Rural and Remote Support Worker, and her brand new mobile home.

Sue moved to Roma when she was 17, married a local boy and bought a cattle property.

In early 2022, I sold my home on the Sunshine Coast and moved back to Roma to live on the cattle property where my late husband and I worked and raised our two children – the kids have the property now, which suits me – I can move wherever I’m needed.

Along with the fourbies, bulldust and flies, Sue has more than 17 years’ experience in the disability sector, working with people with high and complex supports needs, and people with mental health conditions.

I love the bush and support work is my passion so it’s a no-brainer to wrap it all up and support people and their families in the bush.’

I know first-hand how hard families work to make ends meet – families on properties with small children or a family member with a disability can test the best of us – add 100 jobs to do a day and before you know it, life becomes pretty bloody hard.”

While Sue is leading the one person trial, she’s certainly not on her ‘Pat Malone’ (on her own).

Our team of administrative workers is just a phone or video call away and are ready to support Sue to deliver personalised and customised NDIS supports that work in with the needs of Participants and their families. Sometimes it’s not what you know…

Sometimes it’s complicated, and sometimes it’s not – whatever a person or their family needs me to do to get through their day, or to reach their potential – that’s the story I want to be in.

Learn more about the supports we can provide, and if you like what you read, call Sue for a chat to find out how we can support you too.

Let’s talk about how we can be part of your story.
