On December 17th, 2025 the NDIS commision stated.

“The Albanese Government has announced today that mandatory registration for disability service providers in Supported Independent Living (SIL), as well as platform providers, will begin from 1 July 2026.

This means that every provider delivering these NDIS-funded supports must register with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.

All Supported Independent Living and platform providers will be subject to high quality standards and independent audits, suitability assessments, reporting requirements and worker screening checks.

SIL providers deliver in-home supports so that people with a disability get help or supervision to live as independently as possible, including in shared accommodation. It may involve personal care and other daily tasks such as showering, dressing, cooking and cleaning.

Moving to mandatory registration for SIL providers is happening alongside the development of new Practice Standards for SIL.”

The take home is this – the NDIS is changing… again.

From 1 July 2026Supported Independent Living (SIL) and online platform providers will be required to be NDIS registered. The goal is to strengthen safety, quality, and accountability – especially in higher-risk supports.

At CSBS, we want to be clear about where we stand, and why.

We’ve Always Been Registered and We Support Strong Standards

CSBS is, and always has been, an NDIS registered provider.

We believe in doing things properly. We believe in accountability, transparency, and high standards because the people who choose us to support them deserve nothing less.

Good regulation matters. It helps keep people safe. It builds trust. And it sets clear expectations about how support should be delivered.

When regulation is done well, it raises the bar for everyone.

Safety Matters and so Does Choice and Control

We support stronger safeguards in services like Supported Independent Living, where people are receiving support in their own homes and shared spaces.

At the same time, we’re deeply committed to choice and control.

Choice and control aren’t just policy words. They’re about real people making real decisions. Decisions around:

  • Who comes into your home
  • How support looks day to day
  • What feels safe, respectful, and right

Any change to the NDIS must protect you without taking those choices away.

Why Balance Is So Important

We understand why mandatory registration has been introduced. We also understand the concerns many people have raised.

If changes aren’t implemented carefully, they can:

  • Reduce the number of support options available
  • Push out smaller, values-led providers
  • Make it harder for people to keep trusted support relationships
  • Limit flexibility for those who self-direct their own supports

That’s not what the NDIS was designed to do.

For us, regulation should support good relationships, not replace them with paperwork.

Supported Independent Living Is About More Than Compliance

Supported Independent Living isn’t just a service. It’s home.

Quality in SIL isn’t only about audits or systems. It’s about:

  • Feeling safe and respected
  • Being listened to
  • Having control over daily life
  • Being supported as a whole person
  • Living a house that feels like a home. YOUR HOME!

Strong standards can help protect these things. But compliance alone doesn’t create belonging, dignity, or a good life.

People do.

Our Commitment

As an NDIS registered provider, CSBS will:

  • Continue to meet and exceed required standards
  • Advocate for changes that keep people at the centre
  • Speak up when choice and control are at risk
  • Work alongside the people we support, families, and the wider community

We believe the NDIS can be both safe and empowering, well-regulated and deeply human.

Because at CSBS, we see people as more than systems, more than rules, and more than limitations.

We are here to support people to live lives that feel meaningful, safe, and truly their own.
